October 10 & 11, 2017 ~ Boulder, Colorado
Hosted by the ACSP Doctoral Committee
The Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning and the Doctoral Committee of ACSP invites doctoral students of planning working on their dissertation research to attend the 2017 ACSP PhD Workshop. Responding to feedback from last year’s participants, this year the workshop will be a 1.5 day event. It will be hosted in Boulder, CO, during Tuesday afternoon October 10 and all day Wednesday October 11, just prior to the ACSP Annual Conference in Denver starting Thursday, October 12.
The workshop attracts PhD students from planning programs from around the world to gather and discuss the practical details of creating, producing, distributing and consuming planning knowledge among scholars. Workshop participants will learn to conceive, design, and present PhD-quality research to multiple audiences, including, most centrally, their peers. Students will advise one another as scholars pursuing unique research paths within a community of shared inquiry. The faculty work jointly as teachers, advisors, and coaches.

Students are encouraged first to request funds from their universities to help offset travel and workshop-related expenses. Those requesting assistance from ACSP should do so as part of their application in the form of a brief statement describing your reasons for requesting financial support. You may also ask the faculty who writes your letter of recommendation to address your need for financial assistance.
Applications must be submitted on-line using the form below. The application materials to be submitted include:
Applications will be reviewed by the ACSP Doctoral Committee. Previous years’ workshops have been able to accommodate about 60% of those who applied.
All those selected to participate must submit a four-page (single-spaced) summary of the student’s dissertation research proposal no later than September 12th, 2017. These will be distributed among participating students and faculty prior to the workshop. In addition, all participants will be expected to make an 8-minute, 5-slide presentation of their research during the afternoon of the workshop.
